There are many elements that couples take a great deal of time personalizing for their weddings. Tributes to loved ones. Favors that represent the couple's favorite vacation spot. Even the venue may have a special place in their hearts. With this in mind, I want to encourage all couples to take into account the validity of event songs for their special day.
Lately, I have had a lot of my brides use Single Ladies by Beyonce as the song for their bouquet toss. I think that is a marvelous choice! It is a popular song that fits the event and it gets everybody moving. I do not think Lollipop by Lil Wayne, however, is a good choice for the two people who caught the bouquet and the garter. Can you imagine snuggling up to some guy you just met to take the official I-Caught-The-Bouqet-And-You-Caught-The-Garter photo and this is what's playing? Even worse, what if a brother and a sister had been the lucky twosome? There are not enough open bars in the world to make this not be an uncomfortable situation.
Brides and Grooms please be mindful of such things when you choose your songs. By the way, My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion (from the Titanic soundtrack) is about death.

So, take some time to listen and think about the lyrics. A quick Google search will give you any lyrics to any song. We are all surprised when we read what the artist is actually saying versus what we belt out in our cars when listening to the song on la radio.
This is your special day. And it should be a fun day for all your guests. Please do not put your 88 year-old Aunt Sally in the unfortunate position of having to stand next to your best friend's 18 year-old brother while Figured You Out by Nickleback plays in the background.
